Ava began writing the book Don't Smoke when she was in fifth grade research fellow at Baden Academy Charter School (BACS). She was inspired to write a book after both of her grandparents died of lung cancer. Brett and Quincy, both third grade research fellows at BACS, continued with Ava's work and completed Don't Smoke in 2016. Brett and Quincy, when fourth graders, expanded their mission to communicate the dangers of drinking and doing drugs to kids everywhere through their website, Kids Vs. Addictions.
2017 saw Angelina and Clayton join the team and, with Quincy, they wrote What the Heck is Opioid Addiction. The journey introduced them to doctors and specialists involved in addiction science and the American Society of Addiction Science. They all want to work for a day where addiction as a cause of death is in our past.
In 2018, Angelina, Clayton, Quincy, and new editions to the group, Gavin and Isabella started on the book "An Alcoholic In The Family". This story follows the daily life of a girl named Hope (Angelina) who's grandfather (Clayton) is addicted to alcohol. Hope leads an endeavor along with her mother (Isabella) to finding a way to help her grandfather overcome alcohol addiction. Along the way they find many startling facts and learn more about this epidemic.
